Who thinks that a volume/tone knob for each pickup is overkill for a multi pickup guitar? I've always thought that one for each pickup is overkill and just adds cost, complexity and takes up space on the top of the instrument. Give me a master volume and tone for all p'ups any day. I'll say that I'm not a sophisticated player so maybe that's why I feel like I do. I've always been more attracted to  guitars (and amps) with fewer options. It's one of the reasons I fell in love with the T58/V that I now own. And the new Ray Benson signature model is in the same category. It may be my next Eastman! So, am I all alone in this way of thinking?

Just got this from the fine folks at Blues Angel Music. Played it yesterday, thought about it all night, went back and got it today. Beautiful sounding guitar.

We all love our solid natural wood acoustics, but would you ever be open to buying a synthetic (for want of a better word) guitar? Is natural solid wood at its 'best', superior to all the alternatives? Are we a tad conservative? Is it as much to do with visual and tactile aesthetics and/or fear of being a heretic in the face of received wisdom and tradition and peer pressure? Personally I am deeply conservative in things guitar, in a way which might well not be totally rational. Connected to this - I wonder if anyone has ever produced a guitar (obviously minus strings) by 3D Printing?

Just last week I purchased a 1998 Larrivee D-03 Mahogany guitar that was handmade in Vancouver, BC. I couldn't find ANY dings or dents AT ALL and it came with the original HSC. The only reason it doesn't look brand new is that the bone nut and saddle are turning beige with age. It's as though the owner(s) VERY RARELY took it out of its case! I bought it used from the nearby Guitar Center for $605.12 out the door! I took the old strings off, wiped it down, oiled the bridge and fingerboard, and put a new set of Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze 12-54 strings on it, and WOW! That 21-year-old wood sounds wonderful! Most of the others are selling for $800 to $1000 and are not in MINT condition like mine.

This really has me curious.
I was watching one of the Eastman factory YT's.
I remember them showing a neck being glued in place.
Except it wasn't glue.
They were pumping what looked like gray epoxy into the joint from a caulk gun as I remember it.

This means you can't heat it and remove it as usual with yellow glues.
The neck would have to be sawn off what they call 'Hippy Style'?
Which has me thinking they're 'one use' guitars.
I love my Eastmans!
Am I wrong?

I have had 3 different sets of strings on my TC and the Monel mediums are the best so far,although the D’Addario EXP’s were’nt bad or the Martin Authentic PB’s.I believe you could put shoelaces on this thing and it would sound good.

I stumbled across this browsing -- my local Guitar Center has a used AJ617 for sale for $650. Anyone familiar with this model? It looks to be jumbo size, spruce over maple, but doesn't appear to be a current model and I have no idea what it sold for new or whether $650 is a decent price or not. Haven't played it yet either so it all might be moot, but hey, I don't have a maple B&S acoustic.

Just bought an immaculate E10D-TC,used from guitar center,imagine that.I was cruising the used sites online and boom there it was.I could hardly believe it was at GC used,so I called and got an honest description of the condition and couldn’t believe as to why anyone would sell or trade this particular guitar at GC because they only give you so much for trade ins.The salesperson told me that the person traded up for a Martin electric model of some sorts and the E10D-TC was as new.I couldn’t pass on this one so bought it knowing that GC would would take it back per their return policy.I knew all of the reviews were positive and I had been gassing for this particular guitar for a while.I received the guitar and it is pretty much perfect,no fret wear or anything,just like new,even has some bear claw on the top,sweet! I added a nice Holter pick guard and I now have my keeper as they say. The guitar sounds incredible and is getting better,I can already hear it opening up because I play a lot at church.I take good care of my instruments but I’m not afraid to play’em either.To say I’m pleased with it is an understatement.Blessed to have such a great guitar because I’ve had’em all from cheap to expensive.I really am going to try and keep this one.Ha Ha !

One of my favourite traditional songs is Lady Franklin's Lament about explorer Sir John Franklin's 1845 voyage to discover a sea passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific through the frozen ice of Canada's polar region. I stumbled across this excellent version by an Indianapolis band called Hogeye Navvy. Anyone heard of them? They are new to me.

I already posted this on the AGF, but thought it was worth mentioning here.  Recently, I discovered some minor finish markings on the side of my guitar, where my strumming arm rests.  I can see and feel the affected areas, and I'm pretty sure that the nitro was "melted" by deodorant coming through my shirt sleeve.  Thankfully, it's only on two guitars, and the others all seem fine.

The only other exposure I can think of is from playing my guitar after using the hot tub, where there was some residual chlorine on my skin (I typically dry off, but don't usually jump right in the shower) or possibly from my post-tub body heat melting the finish.  Both are possibilities, but seem unlikely to me.

I tried my usual cleaning products and just purchased Virtuoso cleaner and polish, but because I think the finish surface is affected, it's unlikely that the cleaning products will help.  If it can't be buffed out, then it will likely stay this way unless I have the nitro refinished.

EGF/AGF member Uncle Jesse provided me with an Amazon link for arm sleeves, which have worked out well to mitigate further damage.  They sell as a pair, one-size-fits-all, and I hardly notice them on my arm (only wearing on my strumming arm).  I can post the link, if anyone is interested.

Short version: protect your finish by wearing long sleeve shirts, or if that's unlikely (I rarely wear long sleeves), then use a temporary sleeve or something else to provide a barrier between your skin and the guitar finish.
