Replacing a pickup on an ar503ce - need some advice
Posted by: chinabird - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (14)

Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster...

I've been thinking of replacing the pickup on my 503 archtop (recently bought used on Reverb, manufactured in 2014). As far as I've gathered, it's a Kent Armstrong HPAG-1.

Did anyone go through the process?
Any advice or impression will be greatly appreciated.

Specifically:
1. Did anyone experience any difficulty with the rounded shape of the HPAG-1 tabs vs the rectangular tabs on most other pickups?
2. Did you swap the rest of the electronics or just the pickup?
3. How many wires should the new pickup have? 4 or just 1?

BTW, the leading replacement candidate is currently a Seth Lover, but I have no idea how it's going to pair with the guitar, so I'm open to suggestions...

Many thanks

  E20SS vs OM
Posted by: Northerman - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (6)

Hi, calling in from Norway! After taking up playing again after some years, the GAS has started to be strong! These days it is not so easy to try before you by, but my local music store (in wich I have been a customer for over 45 years) has a beautiful E20SS. I was also able to try a E1OM earlier. Maybe the strings were dead, but this OM didn't speak to me at the moment.
I mostly play fingerstyle with a thumpick.
I have searched this forum and others as well, but it seems like the E20SS dont get to much love, compared to the OM's. Is it only the narrower 1 11/16 nut thats a problem? I learnt to play on a Swedish made j-45 clone, with a nut 43mm. I have this one still, and I can go from this to my Seagull with a nut at nearly 46mm. Somethings are easier on the narrow nut, and something easier on the wide one.
I see that string spacing at the bridge are the same on both the OM's and the SS. I'm on the fence about ordering a E20OM that I'm not able to try, or by the SS at my local shop. Any thoughts? (And pardon any misspelling and bad grammar!)

  T484 / 486 - suitable for country ?
Posted by: Geevesmac - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (4)

G'day from Australia.
I have been searching for an electric of reasonable quality with wider nut, and happened upon the T484/486's. The reviews I have seen have mostly played jazz / blues style. Will I get a good classic country sound from the SD's ? Thanks in advance.
