11 Best Acoustic Guitar Songs
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (21)

OK - having nothing better to do I have compiled a list of my eleven best (ok favourite) acoustic guitar songs. Why eleven? Couldn't get it down to 10. What constitutes an acoustic song?  Your decision. I have included 'Won't Get Fooled Again' by Pete Townsend because his solo rhythm acoustic guitar version is stellar and captures the essence of the song. So, in no particular order :-

1.  Don't think Twice - Bob Dylan
2.  Cocaine Blues - Gary Davies
3.  Won't Get Fooled Again - Pete Townsend
4.  May You Never - John Martyn
5.  Horse With No Name - America
6.  Yesterday - Beatles
7.  Needle and The Damage Done - Neil Young
8.  American Pie - Don McClean
9.  Redemption Song - Bob Marley
10. Freedom (Woodstock version) - Richie Havens
11. The Beast In Me - Johnny Cash

Unfortunate omission? Wild World - Cat Stevens. (yes, I know that makes twelve).

NGD again for me. This is seven Eastman electrics. I changed the pu's to Monty's PAFs. Very cool guitar and plays like a broken in guitar should.

AlanSam wanted to see some basses....

AlanSam --

Here are a couple pics of my Roscoe LG-3005 five-string bass -- it was originally fretted, but I had my luthier remove the frets. He put in strips of mahogany veneer to replace them, which stand out nicely against the curly maple fretboard, then refinish the neck and set up the guitar.

The last picture is from Roscoe's site: the Roscoe as it originally was, fretted. The color of this was certainly photoshop enhanced, too -- the guitar has some color in the swamp ash, but it's absolutely not as red as that last pic.

Hey, Gruuv -- your turn!

  Eastman AC410

Can anyone tell me anything about the Eastman AC410? I can find plenty on the AC412 - but absolutely nothing on the AC410. The guitar dates from 2008, and I have looked in this forum's catalogues without luck.

Gary was referring to the fact that there is very little truly 'new' in guitar design, and how the Eastman Romeo is very similar to the Fret King JE. A while back I almost bought a Fret King 'JE' - although I could fill an aircraft hanger with 'almosts'. But the guitar has received very positive reviews since its introduction a few years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RODf63HTNbk

  E20D action/set up
Posted by: Big-E - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (10)

After owning the guitar now for just over two months I decided that it had "settled in" and time to set it up to my preference. I mainly flat pick and finger-pick and the guitar was feeling a bit on the "tight" side set at 100 thou and 80 thou with 12-54 strings. Anyway, having little else to do at 6am this morning I decided to get on with it. Set the relief at 8 thou, removed the saddle and sanded off the measured amount aiming for 90 thou bass e and 70 treble e. I left the nut alone as the string height at 1st fret (capo on 3) seemed ok. I achieved just under 90 and around 68 on the treble e with no fret buzz strumming or picking (with and without capo) so was pretty pleased with that. The tone seems brighter with the same strings and volume not noticeably affected. Coming back to the nut, I think the e and b slots are set a fraction low at the factory with a hint of buzz at the first 3 frets but hard to tell really so it don't bother me too much . Just thought I'd share as I'd be interested in opinions for the set ups on other peoples Eastman dreds.

Changes to the Certificate of Authenticity
Posted by: cjhorne - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (4)

When I received my AC422CE on August 21, 2020, the COA included the (born on) Date, the Model #, Serial #, and "Certified by ___."

For the AC222CE-OV that I received on December 29, 2020, the COA no longer includes the (born on) Date.  It still includes the Model #, Serial # and "Certified by ___".  It now has fields for the dealer to fill in the Dealer name, Price Paid, and Sales Date.  My guitar was drop shipped from Eastman/Pomona, so the dealer part was not filled in.

I am guessing the changes were made so the customer cannot see how long a guitar was laying around in dealer stock.  For example, a customer may question a "new" guitar in dealer stock that was made several years ago, and it may give the customer a bargaining advantage.

The new COA is printed on a similar colored card stock, although it is thinner stock

  E10SSv, E10OM-TC and E15SS available

I have an opportunity to add something that is a bit more uncomfortable financially. To keep the peace at home I would probably have to move two, if not three, of my guitars. I am still waiting for a final price so that I can decide which ones and whether they all will need to go. Here is a list of what is available:
2014 - E15SS - This was the last of the custom run LG2/B25 inspired models for LA Guitars. This was the one I received from LA Guitar as a replacement due to the pickguard removal catastrophe. It is basically my couch guitar. It is in the same condition as when I purchased it. There are some very light surface scratches due to it hanging around LA Guitars for 6 years. I did a quick set up but it probably could use something a little more detailed. I put a Holter Pickguard, Restoration Age tuners with cream buttons and John Pearse ebony armrest on. The armrest is removable. The pickguard is not - at least not by me. No pick-up. Note the OHSC seems to be for an OM and I have added additional padding so that the guitar is snug in the case. Asking $1050
2020 - E10SSv - I wish this guitar had a thicker neck and wider nut because if it did I wouldn't even consider selling it. I have added a John Pearse ebony slimline armrest which probably is not removable and a Schatten HFN pickup. Asking $1050.
2019 E10OM-TC - Once again the JP ebony armrest (removable), upgraded Schaller GrandTune machines and an LR Baggs Anthem dual source pickup - UST and microphone. I don't believe this guitar has ever left my house and is in like new condition with the exception of some superficial scratches on the pickguard. Asking $1150.

All prices include shipping and payment via PayPal. Let me know if anyone has an interest and I can follow up with more detailed information and pictures.

  headstock scarf join glue
Posted by: moyesguitars - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (5)

Hi everyone, I am a professional luthier. I have an Eastman acoustic in the shop where the glue join for the scarf at the peghead has failed. It is not your standard split peghead because the failure corresponds exactly with the prepared join. It is still strongly hinged together so I cannot get in to clean up the gluing surfaces. Does anyone know what glue Eastman uses for their general construction and for this join in particular? Hide glue? Titebond? Epoxy (please, no!).
Thanks
