Eastman SB54/vLTD

I recently purchased a new Eastman SB54/LTD #19 of 40. I love everthing about the guitar except that the three ply binding on one high E side of the neck has little black showing flecks showing in the thick white stripe of the binding. Has anyone else had this issue show up? They appear to be little pits where the black plastic shows thru the white stripe.

Received my first new Eastman today. I decided on an E8OM-TC. I’m very pleased with my decision. The quality of workmanship is excellent. As a relatively new player I’m impressed with the playability of the guitar. I’m not sure I’d be able to discern the difference between the torrified top or not but after listening on YouTube and the comments here I decided to go with the TC. Not having anything in person to compare it with I think it sounds terrific.

I bought the guitar from Acoustic Music Works  (no affiliation) in Pittsburgh. I had it shipped to Florida and it arrived 3 days. They were very pleasant to deal with. No tax, or shipping charges and are competitively priced. I’m looking forward in my retirement becoming a better player and after things are back to normal taking lessons.

Don.

Is Eastman the only one producing a fancified laminate top guitar?
Posted by: Shishigashira - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (4)

I've seen LOTS of back and forth over solid vs laminate back and sides.  I tend to side with those that think that you can do excellent laminated back and side guitars that can be virtually indistinguishable from their solid counterparts all long as you build them equally otherwise.  I think a lot of laminate back and sides seem to suffer in other areas because there's some cost cutting going on.   But Yamaha produces amazing laminate B&S guitars, well amazing guitars overall.  But they don't seem to cut too many corners on their laminate back and sides.  And if you drop in bone nut and saddle tonewise, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference with their all solid counterparts.

Anyways, all of that to say, that while there's lots of back and forth over laminating the back and sides and whether you can get the equal tone, what about a laminated top.  Now part of the problem is that a laminate is not a laminate is not a laminate.  Companies do very different things when they produce guitar parts that all get called laminates.

Lamination is the technique/process of manufacturing a material in multiple layers, so that the composite material achieves improved strength, stability, sound insulation, appearance or other properties from the use of differing materials. A laminate is a permanently assembled object by heat, pressure, welding, or adhesives.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamination

Eastman produces their double top guitars, which in my mind is unmistakably a fancy laminated top.  Two pieces of wood sandwiching another layer.   Not sure I've seen any other company making a laminated top with solid back and sides.

Still, it seems like they are not great sellers, probably because there's significant market confusion about what they are buying.  Any guitar 'expert' will tell you that the one thing you want in a guitar is a solid top.   But from the reviews I've seen, folks think the DT models sound quite good.  I wonder if Eastman is the exception that proves the rule.

  Old men with wooden teeth...

Well, not really teeth...

I was talking with my luthier the other day about my new guitar (E6OM - sitka/mahogany) and he said "Yeah, it seems that as guys get older they start leaning towards mahogany more than rosewood."

I thought to myself "I resemble that remark."

Do you notice this, too? And if so, why do you think that is?

Hard Case For The ACTG1 Travel Guitar
Posted by: campacj - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (5)

I have an Eastman ACTG1 (all solid Sitka/Sapele, no electronics) on the way to me from Blues Angel Music. It ships in a nice soft case, but does anyone know if there is a HARD case made for this guitar? I know there are 3/4 size cases made for the Martin DJR. Would that fit?

Es 10 OO SS, Limited Edition

So, has anyone ever encountered one of these? There's one for sale near me, it's nice, but even when I Google I don't get hits. I've sent a message to Eastman but didn't hear back yet. It looks amazing, flamed mahogany... delicious.

Edit: Just for clarity, E10 OO SS, not E1 OO SS.

  Emerald Carbon Fibre Guitar

If I lived in a really guitar-hostile environment I would definitely buy a carbon fibre guitar. This vid features Carl Bludts (aka known as Daddystovepipe), a favourite guitarist of mine. I believe he payed for the Emerald guitar himself, so you are getting an objective review.
