Hi, I'm new here and relatively new to playing guitar. I've introduced myself on the Intro board but thought I'd share my first Eastman story here.
Two to three years ago, I was looking for my first high-end LP. After some patient hunting, I came across a seller offering both a SB 59/v and a Heritage H150 Custom (both manufactures were on my radar). After some back and forth emails, I took a 2 hour drive to meet up and check them out. He was a nice guy with legit gear and a love for the instrument. After discussing and playing them, we came to a fair agreement and I went home with both guitars. I was like a kid on Christmas morning! I could hardly wait to get back home and play them and to compare/contrast.
Let me say that they are both stellar guitars. I had played several Gibsons and other LPs at various GC's etc.. and was more often than not disappointed. I get the whole Gibson brand mojo thing but they never really hit the sweet spot. Pups sounded great but frets/neck weren't perfect for me. However, the Eastman and Heritage both outperformed any of the Gibson's I had played. Yes, I was still on the honeymoon but I knew these guitars were special. They felt great in my hands, were easy to play, and sounded fantastic, and oh the smell of that nitrocellulose when you open the case and play the Heritage is intoxicating.
Each guitar was unique. LPs yes, but certainly different from each other (as most guitars are). I was really happy with both. There was only one problem: I knew I was only going to keep one long term. When I committed to buy both, I said to myself that I would play them for awhile and eventually keep the one I liked best. Each one had more pros than cons when comparing/contrasting so it was a hard choice. They are both dream guitars in my opinion. I was a hard-working lucky man.
Well, I kept them for about a year or so when I decided it was time to make a decision. Gear had magically started accumulating on my journey to find out what I like and what I don't and it was time to let some stuff go.
I kept the Eastman. It sounded great, was lighter, I liked the neck-feel more, and at half the cost of the Heritage I just couldn't let it go. I still miss the Heritage and may one day buy another, but the Eastman does everything I want from an LP. I love it. Friends and family members who play it like it too. It's fun to turn them on to Eastman guitars. Surprise surprise!
I love the SB59/v so much I've since added a T484 which fills my semi-hollow slot nicely. It's another amazing guitar. And this year I acquired a AC722CE. Just a beautiful guitar (love the sound port!). I'm back on the hunt for a E20OM or E40OM (MR TC anyone?) but am patient and can wait for the right one to come along. I definitely have plenty of Eastman's to enjoy until then. I've become a real Eastman Fanboy.
Thanks for reading. It's nice to be here.
