Van Morrison - Astral Weeks (1968)
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

I was remiscing about the time 55 years ago I first heard Astral Weeks on a trip with a brown eyed girl (... I much older now with hat on drinking wine and that scent of sweet Eileen comes drifting through the warm night air like Shalimar ...) and with me evermore om shanti shanti shanti. Van Morrison, Belfast's finest, recorded this in New York when he was a shy and nervous 23 years old with some legendary musicians - Connie Kay, Richard Davis, Jay Berliner to name but three. Prior to recording Van sang each of his songs a couple of times accompanying himself on guitar and then when asked what he wanted the band to play basically left them to improvise. This is Madame George from the album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrOgYjp20j0
For those who haven't heard this 1968 studio album* I strongly recommend you obtain a copy and play it through a good sound system! And apologies to Van the man for my personalization of his lyrics ha ha.
* the 2008 live Hollywood Bowl (re)recording of Astral Weeks is not too bad.

  New (to me) E-20 OO
Posted by: tele_player - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (4)

Used, in as-new condition. Saw it on FB Marketplace, drove to Santa Rosa to check it out. It came home with me.

Seller says it’s 2021. It’s not a TC, top looks like Adirondack, maybe? No certificate.

So far, I like it a lot.

  Sold: Eastman E20D-MR-TC
Posted by: PeteD - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - No Replies

Mint condition E20D-MR-TC asking $sold here to forum members (plus actual shipping).  I'm selling this because I have 3 Dreads and I want to offload one to fund a Lowden I have my eye on.  My E8D is well aged, well loved, and is not ever going anywhere.  We have completely bonded.  But it was close between selling this or my Collings D2H T.  Frankly the Eastman is of equal build quality in my eyes, and is a bit of a richer tone.  But I've decided to keep the Collings because frankly I've always dreamed about one and I want to see how it breaks in over time.

Would love to sell this to tried and true Eastman fan...we know what we have here in this brand.  And wow, to get a guitar of this build quality with these tonewoods at these resale prices??!! Buying 2nd hand is a steal!

Pics here on Reverb.  Shipping is from North Carolina.

New Guy and New Guitar Incoming
Posted by: PopsInABox - Forum: Introductions and EGF Annoucements - Replies (6)

Hey folks.
My name is Tom… My favorite people on the planet call me Pops (3 beautiful grandchildren).

I just ordered (on 01/11/26) an AC522CE from The Acoustic Shoppe. I’m super excited to get it home. This is my first Eastman.

I’m a lifelong piano player (I’m 54) but I haven’t played an instrument since 2 strokes in 2015 left me legally blind. Very long road… but I’m too blessed to be stressed and I’m excited about this new chapter of my life. I plan on this guitar being my primary instrument for as long as I can still draw a breath. I’ve dabbled with guitar on and off, of course, but nothing serious. Until now.

Anyways, just thought I’d introduce myself and say hello. When John/Jeremy and The Acoustic Shoppe get the guitar sent out to me, maybe I’ll post up a NGD thread.

  darker strings
Posted by: me9ki - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed,

but what type of strings do you think are best for achieving the darkest possible sound?
I would like to “equalize” the sapele in some way to make it as round and less shrill as possible.

Thank you.

What kind of finish is on my E10 SS?
Posted by: OutWest - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (1)

It was manufactured in October of 2021. The spec sheet I printed when I bought it used in Sept of '23  said it was "Truetone Gloss". The website didn't define what that meant. Does anyone know if it's nitrocellulose, or poly, or something else?

I need to buff out some light scratches, and want to know what the finish is so I can use the right polish and technique. Any knowledge and/or advice is welcome!

Thanks,
Riley

  Santa Cruz OM
Posted by: SasquatchLife - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (1)

I went to a local guitar shop the other day, and played a $15K Santa Cruz OM. Had a bearclaw spruce top of some sort and the most amazing set of Brazilian RW. Probably one of the best guitars I’ve ever played. This thing was incredibly light and one of the loudest guitars I’ve ever played, including dreads. And only $15K!!
