So, I did a thing. I ended up buying another E2D and sold the first one I bought. Long story as to why, but attached are pics of the new one. Not sure why they're sideways again. The sapele back is pretty gorgeous if you ask me.

I love the cedar top! I really like what it does to the trebles. Really gives them a sweet and crisp sound. I think I prefer it over my E8OM-TC spruce top as far as the trebles. Man this thing is super loud too. What blows me away is how well it projects to me playing fingerstyle. It's super loud even with my bare fingers.. And the amount of responsiveness and immediacy is just perfect. Just like my first E2D, it took about 3 days or so for the tone to really start coming alive. I'm beyond happy with it. I do feel like these cedar tops have some extra magic that just aren't present in the Spruce tops. At least in the Sitka tops I've played. No knock on the Sitka, this cedar is just so sweet and crisp. Bass is very deep too.

I love how much different it is from my E8OM-TC. I feel like these guitars are perfect contrasts. I never realized how slinky my short scale E8 was until I bought these E2s.

I love my E8OM-TC, but man it's really hard to beat a dread. My wife prefers the E8 because it sounds more full/rich and my E2D sounds "dry". I mean she's right about the tone differences! Can't say I like one more than the other, but my poor E8 hasn't seen much love since I bought my E2D. I'm sure the new will wear off though.

Anyways, I still can't believe these E2 models can be had for less than $600. It's ridiculous how fantastic this guitar is. If any EGFers are thinking about this model, pull the trigger now!

Hi everyone, i am very happy with my new guitar which is as lovely as expected but, the Action Height setted from the factory seems really too high for me. Is like they want you to pay some extra setting on the store. I had to lower the guitar nut quite a bit and the saddle on the bridge to make it easy playable (even for a strummer, i am not being a too picky fingerplayer), other guys that played the guitar said the same, that the factory settings were not that good (considering how good the guitar itself it is really, all the details and love and care putted into it). The neck was okay, and it came with the Addario Factory strings 0.12 which were my favourite gauge.

Hey all. I've been looking for a used T185MX and found one that I'm assuming is from around 2010 as it still has gold hardware. Maybe even older. 

How were the thinlines from this era? Anything specific I should look out for during the review period?

I just noticed that Dave's Guitar Shop has two used E6D-TC for $795 a piece. Heck of a deal.

No, not from the EGF!  

For the last two months, since my MR TC guitars arrived, I've found myself playing them A/B against my other guitars.  Not so much with the OM, but mostly with the dread.  

The OM is a little closer to what I was expecting, and it's not far off in sound to my E40OM and E20OM-SB (just the obvious and expected differences, based on tonewoods and TC vs. non-TC, etc.).  After the initial honeymoon period, it kinda settled into a rotation with the others.

Meanwhile, the dread sounds much different than I was expecting.  After two months, I am still trying to wrap my head around what I'm hearing with this guitar.  It has a sweet, dry sound with remarkable clarity, sounds beautiful when played lightly, and picks up when I dig in.  But it's not as loud as my other dreads, and the bottom end is missing something (it's present, but not as full as I was expecting).  The guitar is tight and focused, so perhaps these things will change, as the guitar gets more playing time and opens up, which is exactly what happened with my 2017 E40D, which is my favorite dread.

But since it's new and sounding so different, I keep playing it next to 1-2 other guitars, and I think I'm not allowing the guitar to be judged by its own voice, but rather how that voice compares to my other guitars, which are 2, 3, 5, 6+ years old and heavily played in.  I need to stop the comparisons and just play it along with the others, kinda like I'm doing more with the OM.

On Monday, I took both MR TCs to my luthier for setups.  This was a really good thing b/c it helped me break this unhealthy comparison on the dread.  I've had neither MR TC all week, and I've gone back to just playing my guitars without having to compare the guitar I just played to the next one.

As I learned with some of my other guitars (especially Adi tops), they all work on their own timelines, and I need to maintain patience to see how a guitar will evolve.  I used to be able to figure a guitar out in a few weeks (3-6 months at most), but some guitars can take a year or longer.  My E20OM-SB took two years to open up, and the aforementioned E40D took a year to shake that initial tightness, which may be affecting the E20D-MR-TC.  I've thought about digging out my Tonerite.  

Sometime next week, I'll get a text that the guitars are ready for pickup.  I'm hoping that the much needed break will allow me to just slide them into the rotation with the others and not resume the comparisons and over-thinking.

So I have had my E8D-TC for 2 and a half years and I still can’t settle on what strings to use. The ones that sound best are Martin Mediums 80/20 Bronze, but tuned down a tone. However, all the others I tried—Lights/Medium/Bluegrass—end up making the lower strings dull, Phosphor Bronze or 80/20 Bronze, from D’Addario or Martin. Is the bracing of the guitar so strong that it needs these heavy strings tuned down? By the way, Mediums tuned to pitch are also not sounding as well as tuned down a tone. Where do I go next? Round cores? What are you guys using on your rosewood dreadnoughts?

So what items on the menu have your interests peaked currently? For me its a Mah/Spruce Dread to compliment my E8D, still wavering on the type of spruce...and also a Parlor of some sort for those ragtime/blues moods. 

Decisions.......decisions

Well... I have an admission to make.  I thought Martin monel strings would be my new string for all acoustic moving forward.  They sound great on my E6OM.

I installed them tonight on my E10 OM-TC (thermocured)... and ... for whatever reason I didn't find the same magic with this guitar that I did on the E6.  They just didn't sound as good... the frequency response of the mid range wasn't the same.

So, I still like Monel's but they seem to be highly guitar dependent!

I've played electric most my life and always used tele's and 335. Bought a cheap Blueridge BG60 bout 25 years ago to peck around on around the house. After I stopped playing out and liking an Eastman archtop I've had for about 10 years I decided I'd try one of their acoustics bout 5or6 years ago. 

Decided I'd first try a budget Eastman and bought the E2OM. I kept it about three weeks to a month and sold it. Just wasn't what I was looking for in playability or tonally in an acoustic so I took a second chance and got the E10 OM and it was night and day difference in it and the E2 budget Eastman i first bought. My E10 OM simply played and sounded so much better to my likings.

Not knowing much about different wood tonalities and wanting to have a couple acoustics I bought the Eastman E30DT OM last year. It was pretty, played pretty well but I dunno and maybe it was the rosewood tone I didn't care for in comparison to my E10 OM so I wound up selling the double top to a friend.

Just bought an E10P and it's definitely different than my E10 OM. Still getting use to the wider nut and tonality. More comfortable so far playing blusier genres on the parlor and plan on keeping it. My E10 OM gets most my attention, plays really good and sounds good also. Might give another model a try as long as it has the 1 3/4 nut and no bigger than an OM but in no hurry 

I don't have any superlative descriptions for these acoustics lol, I run the other way when I read the words cannon, beast, monster, best, blown away etc etc

Hello everyone! I was watching the Acoustic Shoppe live stream yesterday when John Chapman unveiled Eastmans new E1SS series guitars. These guitars are supposed to be a slope shoulder version of the E1D. Sitka spruce top of Sapele b/s. There is supposed to be a 00 version of the guitar as well. John said these will have bone nuts and bone saddles.

Have any of you seen any of these out in the wild yet or heard anything else about them?

I am super pumped for this line and will likely pick one up if they are priced under $600.
