When I bought my Eastman T-386 I had to sell my E1D to help pay for it.  I currently have an E10P which I adore for blues fingerstyle.  I also have an E10OM that sounds best for flatpicking.  But I really want/need a dread for what I mostly play live, which is Johnny Cash, Merle Travis big country strumming.  I played the E10OM out at a local bar last night, and although it's an amazing guitar, it just doesn't have the bottom end I'm after.

As for the E1D, I liked it, but didn't love it for whatever reason.  Maybe compared to the E10 models it felt a little overbuilt.  So what I'm wondering is if there is an Eastman dread model (or non-Eastman (sorry)) that would fit the bill?  I am really really drawn to the E8D, but don't know if something like an E6D with mahogany would be better?  But I've also been really intrigued by the Martin D-15M.

So to sum up, I've got a low and fairly loud voice, play live, and do mostly country strumming for this need.  I am not a subtle or talented player and am a heavy strummer.  While I'd love to be more refined, I play with the nuance of a gorilla and I just don't see that changing.  While I know any dread will likely get the job done, I only keep gear I love.  And I need to stop this buying/selling merry-go-round I've been on for years... hahaha.  I'd like to keep it around $1k.  I thought about selling the E10OM to help fund something more, but I just don't think I can let it go.

Any insights would be very much appreciated!

Just got this PCH3-D-CB in yesterday and the fret end of the 1st fret seems almost like it's tilting forward? Or maybe it's an optical illusion and the fret end was just cut weird. There's also a chunk of fingerboard missing at the 5th fret and I'm just wondering if that is anything to worry about as far as the fret lifting from the fingerboard or some such thing? Only other time I've seen something similar is on a Kiesel with an ebony board I got used. It was only on the edge of the board near the fret marker dots though.

Overall the guitar is loud and has very nice tone for the price. My personal preference is lower action at the nut and saddle than what it shipped with but I'm real picky with that and spend most my time on electric. I'll likely lower it eventually.

I have a Blueridge BR 160 A (all solid- Adirondack Spruce/ Indian Rosewood Dreadnaught)
Does anyone know if there is any significant difference between the neck shape/profile on Blueridge Dreads and Eastman Dreads?

I’ve owned two T486’s, one with a Bigsby and one without and I wanted a smaller body thinline this time. I’m old and lazy and play sitting on couch a lot and 16” bout guitars don’t do that well.  

I hunted for a used T184 I could afford, like an idiot I did not realize Eastman came out with a T484 recently.

I found a T184 for a great price, no case but I did not need one. That did not go well, see the Ebony fingerboard. The store I bought from online  was very apologetic  and refunded me after they saw my photos.

I suspect because this guitar came from an area close to the many west coast fires that the guitar in its case may have been exposed to severe heat, destroying the case and damaging the guitar.



I discovered the new T484 and ordered one....Wonderful guitar.  Stunning neck and fingerboard as usual from Eastman and she has very nice tone.  I’m very happy.

A couple of years ago, a friend was visiting and we got to talking guitars. He told me that he wanted to get back into playing again, so I pulled out my Eastman E60M-LTD and we started passing it back and forth. I had been thinking about trying out a carbon fiber guitar for a while, and to make a long story short, he really bonded with the Eastman and bought it.

I bought a Rainsong CH-OM and entered the CF world. From the start, I wasn’t sold on the neck profile, which caused some thumb pain from time to time. I also had some serious seller’s remorse about the Eastman, even though it went to a good home.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, and he let me know that he had had surgery on his left hand, and while surgery was successful, he just couldn’t play the Eastman any more. I sent him a check for what he had paid me and back it came in the same condition as when it left.

The Eastman neck feels great to me (I had bought a T184MX-LS when I ventured into the electric world because the neck was almost the same). I restrung it with Martin Retro monel lights, which, if memory serves, will develop some thump and growl after a couple of hours of playing time. I’ll probably try a set of Retro LJ’s Choice next time (I used those on the Rainsong and they gave it a thicker low end and sweeter high end).

The Rainsong? It's up for sale locally.

I just bought another Eastman! This time an E8OM-TC. I bought it from The Acoustic Shoppe or Chapboogie.

This is my 3rd Eastman purchase since April. My 1st was in April. I have clinical GAS.

I can't wait to get this baby! I'll report back once I receive and get a chance to play it.

I've been browsing around online for a T386 for a little bit and I've noticed that the overall headstock shapes don't look the same... Did they redesign them for the T386,T486, and T59?  From what I've noticed, it looks like they used to fan out quite a bit towards the top of the headstock, but some photos I've seen posted here more recently looks like the headstock is a similar shape and size to a gibson where the top of the headstock is a similar width to the bottom of the headstock.  Maybe its just the angle the pictures are taken at?
