Age 72 1/3 years old. Grew up on a farm in the Mississippi Delta and my dad started showing me a few guitar chords in 1959. Radio was all we had until around 1962 we finally got a television getting 2 channels, so until then we'd listen to the Grand Ole Opry every Saturday night. Lived only a few miles from Leland & Hollandale Ms. I was fortunate as a kid to have met and spent a little time with blues players Son Thomas (Leland) and Sam Chatmon (Hollandale)

So in my early years of listening and learning a bit here and there it was all old traditional songs and old acoustic blues. As the 60's rolled in and hitting my teens I started getting caught up in the Stones, Beatles, Van Morrison & Hendrix, Cream, (British Invasion) etc so I went thru a period of working on these genres in my teens.

Around 1969 or 70 a friend turned me on to Muddy Waters Fathers and Sons Album and it immediately captivated me like nothing I'd ever heard. I started meeting musicians that had the same influences in musical genres and artist of the times. We all stuck together thru the years in various groups doing a variety of genres (Chicago Blues, New Orleans jazzy blues, Appalachian mountain, bluegrass traditionals, folk, classic country, progressive country. rhythm and blues, jazz standards, soul genres. Never was influenced in the least by Rock and Blues Rock.

Stopped playing out about 8 years ago and have played nothing but acoustic since then and have gone back to where I started in my youth trying to learn something from all the old traditional tunes that I missed and thats a lot.

A lifetime of playing from 8-72 yrs old. Still play everyday at home and enjoy not being stuck in a genre rut...To say I'm old school is an understatement

I own a USA made Eastman SB59 Custom Edition that is easily my favorite LP style guitar I’ve ever owned! (Even better than my Gibson’s!) It was hand built by Otto D’Ambrosio in Pomona, California. I haven’t seen any other Custom Editions and was wondering how many were made and if they’re still being produced!

It was cool; you could choose your guitar and then choose add one, specific bridge, pins, not, etc…and they’d install it all before shipping.

I've had my T486 for about 2 months now and just got it back from my guitar tech who gave it a set-up. She came to me (used) needing a little TLC as my set-up did not result in a beautiful player. Dylan fixed that. I plugged her into my favorite amp, a 15 watt 1x12 Traynor, and struggled somewhat to get a gorgeous tone. Fiddling with my pedals helped but what was surprising is what came out of the Traynor when I engaged my overdrive pedals (both together). A thick, distorted, and noisy sound that was Kinda wonderful. My LP and Tele can give me everything from clean and articulate to grungy but the Seymour Duncans on the T486 seem to be most at home on the dirty side, at least with my playing. I didn't expect that from this semi-hollow. I like.

Had a beautiful Collings CJ when I moved to Los Angeles from the Bay Area. It developed a bad top crack the second year I was here. Someone told me about a shop in the Valley, where I live, and I trusted the guy with the repair. He butchered it, and my choices were find someone else to replace the top or sell. I went with the latter, taking a bath. I just played my electrics for about five years, but missed having an acoustic. Heard that Eastmans sounded and played well, and weren't stratosphere expensive. Went with a small body, to go easy on my right shoulder, an E20-00. Found it on Craigslist for $1,200. Beautiful. Sounded amazing for its size. Action a little high for me, but I have no problem setting up my guitars, so wasn't worried about it. Got it home. When I sat down to set it up, realized the effing bridge was glued in. Asked Eastman how to get it out. They weren't helpful. From what I could see, it would need to be chiseled out and a new nut created to set up the action. Which was nuts. So it went straight back onto Craigslist; the shortest amount of time I've ever owned a guitar. I only lost $200 on that one, a bargain compared to the Collings. That was almost two years ago. Then I read a review of the DT30-OM. Two things caught my eye. First, it was marginally bigger than the E20-00, small enough to keep my shoulder happy, but louder, and with more bottom end, and the Nomex laminate top adds even more volume. This means I might be able to use almost the same string setup, 10-48, on an acoustic that I use on my LP, 335, and Telecaster, 10-46, with no loss of volume or dynamics, especially bass response. #2 should really be #1, given my experience with the Collings. DTs are fairly new with Eastman, but have been used for classical guitars for a while. The Nomex laminate has a reputation with luthiers for being less likely to crack. Mine has lived up to both my criteria. Oh, and it's a lovely guitar. I say, "Hello, Beautiful" ever time I pick her up, the same as with my 335 (OK, which is the most beautiful guitar I've ever owned).
