Spinning off of my Thinlines thread, I'm trying to determine which Eastman electric guitar would be best for me.

Here's my situation.  I don't really play live very often, but when I do, my style is more garage rock stuff (bashing out chords at varying tempos).  Mostly, this would be for home recording, and that will likely take on a much different style than either my live acoustic or electric playing.  It could be clean and atmospheric, or it could be noisy and heavily processed.  And while I'm not opposed to mic'ing an amp, I'll mostly likely be running everything directly into my Mac and monitoring with headphones.

More details: I've always owned solid body guitars, and I currently have three in the house (Brian Moore strat, Epi LP, and a Squier Jag).  I've always been enamored with the ES-335 style, but never owned one.  Some people describe them as a best all-purpose guitar b/c they can manage a lot of different tasks.

I think that any Eastman electric guitar (SB, Txxx, or MX) can fulfill my basic live needs.  But is there any advantage for the studio?  Or doesn't it matter, if I'm adding a bunch of effects and then plugging directly into GarageBand?

My preference is leaning towards a used Thinline b/c (1.) I've never owned one, (2.) even if I sell my Brian Moore, I still have two solid body guitars in the house (inc. a LP body style), and (3.) I can get more guitar for my $$$, if I find a good used one (Eastman's SB line is brand new, so I'd have to get a new one).  And then, if this is the plan, do I get a T486 (costs less) or spend the extra $$$ for an MX model (about 1.5-2x price)?

Hey, gang.  Can you school me on the Eastman thinline models?  There are two series: laminate vs. solid --- with several models within each line.

If I want an electric to play around the house and possibly record with, is the T486 sufficient?  Or should I be looking at the T184/5/6 solid models?  Is feedback really an issue with the solid wood models?  What about pickups?  I would want something that is versatile to handle rock / blues / alternative... I'm not a jazz player, but tone and sound quality are important.

I hope this thread can point me in the right directions... and help other semi-hollow newbies in the future.

I had a short window of time before my flight departed from SJC today, so I pulled out my phone and looked up 'local Eastman dealers in San Jose CA' ... Gryphon Strings came up.  I was not familiar with them, but I have to say - very impressive shop, with super friendly service.  I finally had a chance to play a nice selection of Eastman electrics!  Photo below.  They had three T486's.  I really truly liked them - especially the way the neck felt.  Of course, overall construction was typical high quality Eastman.  Anyway, if you are ever in the Bay, this seems a worthy shop to visit.

This drives me nuts. I have a Martin 000-18 back at CFM for a neck reset. This is a barely played 2017 model purchased from a well known vendor who sells online as well as brick and mortar on the opposite coast from me. Ridiculous. I have decided when it comes back, it is going on the sales block.

However, as I have shopped around for an Eastman E20OM which is what I want to replace it, I have found that many Eastman guitars also look like they are barely or not acceptable as far as saddle height goes. Now saddle height is only a symptom of the real problem and I may be sensitive to it because I like my guitar string action to be on the lowish side, but I am seeing new guitar after new guitar, both Martin and Eastman that have little to no adjustment left without a neck reset or modifying the bridge.

I recently bought an E20 OOss and there were two in the shop. One had acceptable action and adequate saddle to account for future adjustment (the one I went home with), the other had high action and fixing it would leave not much room for any future adjustments.

Now I understand the problems with too much saddle showing and no one wants that, but if the action is 7/64 and 3/32 base and treble and there is no saddle left, what happens if you want it a bit lower? What about if that top bulges up a bit? You end up with strings with no break angle over the saddle and tone suffers. You can even end up with a string that sounds like it is on a sitar rather than a guitar.

Oh well, I am just ranting. I did just purchase an E20OM used that has nice action and enough saddle for the foreseeable future, but it will be a long time before I buy an acoustic guitar from an online vendor again.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I just too picky??
