Compacq - I  read your recent post where you said you owned five Martin guitars. If you are willing to share your views on them I for one would be interested in what you have to say.

I have played acoustic guitar for over 50 years and I have owned some of the very best guitars, all the names you know. I currently own five Martins and three Eastmans and I believe that I have a very good idea of what a quality instrument should look, feel, play, and sound like. Bottom line? Eastman has done it again! This guitar sounds very much like the E1D, but with a slightly deeper tone. The Ovangkol gives the E3DE a tone much like rosewood, but with more midrange so the overall sound is very well balanced. Like the E1D the workmanship is near perfect. The E3DE is beautiful, plays easily with a low action, and sounds rich and full. Also like the E1D, the micro thin satin finish allows the wood to age quickly so the guitar “plays in” in a shorter amount of time than a guitar with a gloss finish would require. To top it all off, this guitar retails for under $800! And for this price you get REAL EBONY fingerboard and bridge, no richlite on this guitar. It also comes with a Fishman Sonitone pickup built-in so you’re ready to plug in. IMHO Eastman’s E1, 2, and 3 series guitars offer the best “bang for your buck” in the industry. No other guitar maker gives you as much for your money as Eastman.
PS: I DO suggests using Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze Light (12-54) Guitar Strings and a good quality hard shell case.

Had the guitar for a few weeks now and I am extremely pleased I must say and it has done some time in the studio and 4 gigs so far I have not got any good close up photos to show you however if allowed I have made 2 short rough and ready video clips if of any interest. 

I am looking at getting one of the parlour 12 fret size Eastmans soon as they are possibly my favourite type of acoustic so will be going to have a try out sometime soon.

I've opened a site on BandCamp.com for my original music. If you want to check it out, you're welcome to do so, but I won't be mentioning it here again, since that's not what this site is for; the intention of BandCamp is allow musicians to get paid for their work. My son's band has their album up there, for instance. Right now, my site's extremely sparse—there's only one single tune up there—but for anyone who wants to follow me on BandCamp, I can let you know through that site when new stuff appears.

So my son recently decided he wanted to play guitar and squirreled my Reverend Manta Ray away in his room.  I had JUST swapped in Seth Lovers and it was sounding amazing so this hurt a bit.  Since then I've been stalking Dave's for a nice replacement and they've been dropping "used" electrics and acoustics over the past day and a half or so.  This popped up an hour ago and it's on the way to Memphis now!



SB59/V in Goldburst.  I've played SB59's before so I know I'll love the neck, and I'm interested in hearing how the Custom Imperial Lollars compare to my Seth Lovers.  Knowing that Dave's exists is the worst thing for my GAS.

Just acquired a pristine t-486 El Diablo. I was told it is 1 or 4? Does anyone know anything about this model? Is it actually 1 of 4 made? I found the specs but don’t have any history on it. Thanks

Quick question:

If you had to choose between the E1D (mahogany back & sides) and the E3DE (ovangkol b & s) - and ONLY these two models (others not applicable - mainly for price, but also for availabilty reasons; plus, I prefer the open pore matte finish to a glossy one) - for playing bluegrass, flatpicking, soloing up the neck, country rhythm (no fingerpicking), which one would you choose?

Eastman availabilty in my part of the world is limited; I've only ever played one E1D at a store, and the E3DE has me intrigued, as it is not a lot more.

I'm mainly after volume, projection, cutting-through power, I don't need "pretty" tones, and this is only for playing unplugged...
